Sewn Together Postcard
During lockdown in 2020, the Old School team worked with local textile artist, Jane Charles, on a project we call 'Sewn Together'. Wanting to give everyone stuck at home something creative to work on that would also help them to continue to feel part of a community, we designed a simple quilt block for people to make, and even provided free packs of materials to those that wanted them.
Over the summer, Jane sewed together over 300 separate blocks that people contributed, into one enormous quilt, The quilt will be displayed at the Old School during Heritage Open Days in September 2020, so that everyone who contributed to the quilt can come and see the wonderful community artwork they created together, even as they were apart.
The quilt is so big, that after Heritage Open Days it will be split into three separate pieces, so the Heritage Days exhibition is the first and last chance to see the quilt in its full glory. However the smaller quilts will remain proudly on display at the Old School after the event.
This large A5 postcard shows the whole quilt on display during the Heritage Open Days events, before the quilt is divided into three smaller wallhangings. A colourful memento of the project, it is large enough for all squares to be clearly visible.
